The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s reports do not always include data on Russian aircraft and sea vessels destroyed or damaged as a result of sabotage outside of Ukraine.

Russian authorities claim that the Ukrainian side is spreading false information about Russian troop losses.

Confirmed losses of the Russian army and pro-Russian military structures in Ukraine (we are talking about verified data from open sources collected by the editorial staffs of Mediazona and the BBC) amount to more than 221,200 people killed (according to known names) or about 352,000 (according to inheritance cases).

At the end of May 2026, the UK’s Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), which is responsible for signals intelligence, reported that Russia had lost almost 500,000 people killed since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

According to the independent resource UA Losses , which keeps track of all those killed on the Ukrainian side, providing their names and other data, more than 191,000 Ukrainian servicemen have been killed or missing since the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian army (February 24, 2022).

According to the latest published UN data, approximately 15,400 civilian deaths, including approximately 800 children, have been confirmed in Ukraine since February 24, 2022; more than 42,000 civilians, including approximately 2,600 children, have been injured. The UN emphasizes that these are only verified cases; the actual toll is likely significantly higher. Ukrainian authorities and local administrations report tens of thousands of civilian deaths, primarily in Mariupol and other occupied territories, where independent verification is impossible.
