A Tajik with a Russian passport suspected of working for Iranian intelligence has been detained in Israel.

The police, the Ministry of Defense, and the Shin Bet Security Service (Shabat) reported that Behruz Sobirgon, a Tajik citizen who also holds a Russian passport, was detained in Israel in June 2026. He is suspected of security crimes related to contacts with Iranian intelligence and carrying out missions at its direction.

According to investigators, Sobirgon maintained contact with an Iranian agent from January 2026. Most of his activities occurred during the «Lion’s Roar» war.

Investigators claim that contact with Sobirgon began with a seemingly innocent job offer, but he soon realized that it was an approach from an Iranian agent and continued to cooperate despite this.

Among the tasks he carried out, according to investigators, were documenting and transmitting the impact sites of Iranian missiles during the war, transmitting the coordinates of the Azrieli Towers, filming the port of Haifa, and attempting to film a sensitive defense facility in northern Israel. Furthermore, according to security agencies, Sobirgon actively assisted in recruiting others to carry out tasks for Iranian entities.

Today, the prosecutor filed a declaration with the Tel Aviv District Court regarding his intention to bring a serious indictment against Sobirgon and a motion to extend his detention until the end of the trial.
